POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas. Assists with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. Performs general administrative duties in accordance with Joint Commission, CLIA, NCQA and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Leader, Practice Manager, and Director of Operations and within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following essential functions:

1. Maintains flow of patients. Identifies reason for visit and takes vital signs when appropriate. Gets patient ready for exam by removing bandages, etc. Assists physicians with exam and procedures as needed.

2. Maintains exam rooms and medical supply cabinets. Document instruments used and bring dirty instruments to sterile processing for cleaning, ensuring receipt of all instruments back from sterile processing.

3. Schedules appointments, diagnostic testing and labs. Assist with pre-certifications as needed. Forward notes to referring provider and primary care providers. Document Care Notes.

4. Answers phones and works as Patient Service Representatives when needed, taking messages, screening and routing calls appropriately.

5. Answers phone calls regarding medical problems from patients, VNA, or referring physician offices, taking messages, referring calls as appropriate and contacting physicians and nurse for all emergent situations. Routing phone note/calls to nurse, APRN, or physician as appropriate.

6. Preload new patient charts, update existing patient charts, obtaining medical records (history and physical, progress notes, diagnostic testing, labs, etc.) prior to patient’s appointment.

7. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the essential functions of the job:

1. Ability to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the demographics and/ or specific needs of the patient population served by the hospital.

2. Demonstrates proficiency in assessing, responding and adapting treatment of care to meet the needs of the patient population served by the hospital.

3. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

4. Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress; ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.

5. Knowledge of computers and ability to become proficient in the EMR Software.

6. Basic knowledge of medical business office procedures.

7. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and recognize discrepancies.

8. Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.

9. Ability to maintain a pleasant manner with people; is well organized, and able to work under stress. Ability to handle several tasks at one time.

10. Ability to wear protective clothing such as gown, mask, glove, head cover, safety glasses, and/or safety shoes.

11. Travel maybe required to our many satellite offices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

· Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.

Experience:

· One year related work experience in a medical office.

Licensure/Certification:

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

· CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) – required within 6 months from hire, if hired after 2012.
