Job Title: Master Carpenter
Department: Production
Job type: Fulltime, non-exempt
Reporting To: Plant Manager
Location: Dothan, AL
Salary: $21/hour – $24/hour
Summary
We’re looking for an experienced carpenter to join our team and help us create the next generation of beautiful designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, as well as experience with a variety of tools and techniques. He or she will be able to work independently, as well as take direction from our lead carpenter.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
- Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
- Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
- Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter’s hand tools, or power tools.
- Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard.
- Install trim pieces such as moldings, casings, or baseboards.
- Hang drywall sheets, apply plaster or other compounds, and sand seams between sheets to prepare wall surface for painting or wallpapering.
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, millwork, and hardware.
- Plan and lay out work to sequence and alternate finish installation, considering appearance, access, and structural support.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as carpenter.
- Solid understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
- Excellent mathematical skills and understanding complex plans and drawings.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good physical strength, stamina, and coordination.
- Ability to work long hours standing, bending, and stooping.
- 3-5 years experience in construction and or carpentry work.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Leadership and supervisory experience.
- Project management experience.
- Working knowledge of CAD software and other computer programs.
- Cabinet making and wood product experience a plus.
- Certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship program.
