GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED

The Manufacturing Associate will be primarily assigned to the Foaming department, but will also be crossed trained in multiple departments as operational needs dictate.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED: The Foaming department team member is responsible for producing high quality works in progress and finished product to satisfy the needs and expectations of customers. The position requires focus on keeping the department organized, correctly setting up and preparing each mold for pouring, competently operating the foaming machine, trimming excess foam from each product to ensure the customer views the foam as appealing, and shutting down the department each evening ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance of the foaming machine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Properly setup and prepare the work area each morning for the day’s production, including the retrieval of all needed raw materials, competently setting up and calibrating the foaming machine, placing floor matting in the desired locations, and preparing the correct molds for the days first pours.
  • Safely and efficiently pour foam throughout each day by thoroughly inspecting, correctly placing, heating, taping, and spraying release on raw material in each mold prior to pouring foam, placing the mold in the appropriate location to ensure easy access for the foam machine, pouring foam onto the raw material determined to reduce air pockets or other imperfections, clamping the mold and allowing the foam to cure, removing the product from the mold and making any improvements to the foam if needed and possible (rejecting products that don’t meet quality standards).
  • Ensure the department remains organized and free of debris or other waste that may hinder the efficient and safe operation of the department.
  • Competently maintain the foaming machine to ensure its efficient and continued operation by correctly breaking down the machine head each day, thoroughly removing all excess raw materials from each component, lubricating the appropriate mechanisms, replacing worn components, and ensuring the water tank remains full for proper purging.
  • Communicate clearly with Research and Development regarding mold performance and any problems or inefficiencies any particular mold may be creating.
  • Communicate clearly with internal customers including the Hard Goods Finishing department and the Product Inspector regarding foam quality and other issues. Listen to and implement any feasible feedback internal customers may provide to ensure their expectations are being met.
  • Maintain and continually update data for Continuous Improvement efforts, team job performance measures, and individual performance measures.
  • Properly shut down and organize the Black Foaming area at the end of each day by competently following foaming machine shut down procedures, placing all raw materials in their appropriate storage containers, placing all molds in their appropriate location, unplugging all tools, sweeping the floor and taking trash to the outside receptacles
  • Maintain and keep needed supplies and tools stocked. Communicate to appropriate individuals when tools and supplies need to be ordered.
  • Other Duties as assigned

SKILLS & EDUCATION:

  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening)
  • Detail oriented
  • Possesses manual dexterity
  • Possess good hand/eye coordination

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Manufacturing Associate must be able to stand 90% of each workday, and is subject to bending, squatting, pushing, lifting heavy objects, crawling and working in an otherwise awkward positions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & HAZARDS:

Works in a well-lighted environment, but is subject to occasional high decibel sounds associated with production and non-toxic fumes also associated with production. The duties of this position are present working with tools, machinery, and other production items that have very sharp edges, and are under very high levels of pressure, or are extremely hot.

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
