About this position
The Buildings & Grounds Divisions' goal is to deliver smart business solutions and services that meet the needs of those we serve. The Governor's Mansion is first and foremost the home to the First Family. The Executive Mansion is a unique setting which provides the state an appropriate venue for official state events. Events include a variety of functions, such as official receptions, state dinners and special events like teas, auctions just to list a few. These events are also hosted for non-profit and community organizations as well. The residence has become an increasingly popular venue for the public to visit and meet with the Governor and the First Lady.

The custodial position is responsible for maintaining essential housekeeping duties at the Governor's Mansion.
Who we are looking for:
We are seeking to hire an experienced professional housekeeper who understands the importance of always maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

This role will fully support the Executive Mansion housekeeping duties for the First Family and their guest. You must be reliable and able to show up for scheduled shifts, use effective communication with supervisors, able to work independently, able to follow instructions, stay on task and complete work assignments, be organized, and pay close attention to details. As the housekeeper you will also need to have and maintain a professional friendly working attitude as you may come in contact with customers and house guest.

This position works indoors and outdoors in a residential setting, sometimes under adverse and extreme weather conditions. The ideal candidate will have one to two years’ work experience pertaining to housekeeping, custodial/janitorial, general maintenance, or building maintenance experience.

Due to the nature of this position, this position may-require pre-employment fingerprinting.

About the Division
The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) managed building operations, stewardship and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 28 buildings, 18 public monuments, four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Admin, Maintenance & Repairs, Support Services (custodial).

Duties

Some of what you will be doing
Overall deep and light cleaning, custodial and housekeeping duties of public and private areas of the Governor's Mansion and Residence

  • Examine all rooms of the Residence to determine need for repairs or replacement and make recommendations to management
  • Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, polishing silver and brass and other fixtures, and cleaning restrooms
  • Making beds and perform laundry services
  • Clean outdoors furniture
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Wash windows and sills
  • Discard garbage, recycling and compost
  • Clean the kitchen, and all appliances
Prepare and set up support for public and private events
  • Set up tables and chairs, assist with event preparation and clean up, trash removal, spill clean up, and general event support.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years or older to serve alcohol
  • Must have worked one to two years in housekeeping, janitorial/custodian services, general maintenance, or building maintenance
  • Must have the physical ability to perform the required work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to work in a high pressure and fast paced work environment
  • Willing and able to adjust work schedule, work and priorities at any given time
  • Must be willing to have pre-employment fingerprinting background check performed
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English sufficient to perform job duties in a safe and effective manner

Working Conditions
Work Setting: This position at the Executive Mansion works directly for the First Family and their guest. Incumbent must be professional and always maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times. The position works both indoors and outdoors in a residential setting, and even sometimes under adverse and extreme weather conditions.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00am - 5:00pm
Must be willing and able to flex schedule to support evening and weekend events at the Governor's Mansion. Attendance for events is essential.

Travel Requirements: No travel is required.

Customer Interactions: This position has daily interactions with the Mansion's administrator and staff as well as guest and visitors.
