What the position is:
As Managing Director of Brand Strategy and Communications you will tell the CommuteAir story to our customers, employees, prospective employees and the general public. You will develop brand strategies and communications in accordance with CommuteAir’s vision and core4 values, delivering high-impact content across multiple channels for audiences internal and external, positioning the company as a brand and employer of choice. This position reports to the CFO, and works closely with the entire leadership team, especially in support of the company’s recruiting function.

Essential functions:
  • Manage a small team of direct reports as well as outside agencies and vendors
  • Work closely with leadership to continue to develop and maintain the company’s brand strategy. The brand strategy will be driven by our Vision and our Values and include the following attributes:

  • Identify story opportunities suitable for our external marketing, social media, and internal communications
  • Assess resources needed to effectively and efficiently drive brand strategy and put business cases forward as appropriate
  • Develop brand KPI’s, (such as for social media engagement, effectiveness of advertising campaigns), to set goals, compare against other brands, and track progress. Make data-driven recommendations on adjustments to strategies.
  • Oversee and/or execute all copy intended for public consumption to ensure its alignment with overall brand strategy and company voice
  • Grow our current social media presence online (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Glassdoor, Indeed, TikTok, etc.) through curated content. Maintain plans and calendar of daily social media posts
  • Review storytelling channels to ensure they align to the overall brand strategy.
  • Build messaging and press materials including pitches, press releases, interview backgrounders, fact sheets, bios, etc.
  • Manage internal corporate communications functions, including the weekly e-newsletter, town hall teleconferences and intranet
  • Nurture positive relationships with aviation journalists and local press in the communities we operate
  • Manage responses to inbound press inquiries
  • Track trade news and keep company leaders advised of competitor and industry developments
  • Develop and maintain brand resources including content library (photoshoots, videography, etc), media lists, logos and marketing elements, social media accounts, KPI reports
  • Working with your team, ensure 24x7 on-call availability for preparation of hold statements for operational issues that may drive media inquiries
  • Be a key member of the company’s Emergency Response team, including regular participation in drills to prepare communications in the event of an incident
  • Develop and maintain an Emergency Response crisis communication plan that exceeds the requirements set forth under the Federal Family Assistance act.
  • Coordinate communications with counterparts in Corporate Communications at our customer and investor, United Airlines
  • Develop and manage to the budget for the marketing and communications functions
  • Other duties as assigned
General requirements & qualifications:
  • Preferred candidates will have 5+ years of aviation marketing or communications experience, or other relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or English
  • Demonstrated skills as a strong English writer and proofreader using Associated Press style.
  • Proficient in relevant software, including Microsoft Office and social media tools
  • Self-starter who works well independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
