HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Full Time Non-Exempt 86.67 hours per pay period Monday-Friday

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Director, working as part of the Childcare Leadership Team, will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Early Childhood, the Y Academy Program Manager/Director plans, organizes, evaluates, develops, and is accountable for the total programs of the Child Care Department, which includes: Preschool, Early Childhood Education, and other child care programs. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA. This position is responsible for curriculum instruction in the classroom about 30 hours per week with 10 hours per week allocated to office work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • This position is concerned with the attainment of the Association's purposes through child care programming (in a suburban community which is middle to upper-middle income in range and of varied ethnic composition).
  • Hire and supervise program leaders and teachers, as well as establish reviews, evaluations and performance appraisals of department staff - all in conjunction with Sr. Director of Early Childhood Education
  • Direct the classroom teachers in carrying out daily programs directly related to the position's scope of responsibility. Ensure that all Child Care programs have a safe, enriching environment.
  • Responsible for running all Child Care programs in accordance with the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver Association's policies as it relates to program areas (HIV infection, media contact, child abuse, CBI checks, transportation, field trips, etc.).
  • Responsible for running all Child Care programs in accordance with the state of Colorado where applicable (center licensing, staff requirements, ratios, programs, record keeping, etc.)
  • Accountable for proper development and management of Child Care Department budgets and expenditures for respective programs.
  • Submit written reports to Program Director on appraising goals and objectives being met, current problems with courses of actions.
  • Delegate responsibilities to appropriate coordinators and provides leadership and training to the respective staff.
  • Accountable for program staff retention as it relates to this department and overall branch.
  • Accountable for Child Care center enrollment and marketing as it relates to the department budgets.
  • Schedule and maintain facilities and equipment within program area to the highest level of efficiency (child care center equipment, playground, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community and its representatives in the Child Care program areas.
  • Attend and remain current on all required position trainings and other trainings recommended for the development and growth of this position and Child Care center.
  • Develop a staff and parenting program component to the Child Care Center.
  • Effectively market and promote participation in YMCA membership to encourage the use of other facilities here at our Branch, with the end result being the increased retention of members after they leave the Child Care Center programs.
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies, including: personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Carry out emergency plans as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe YMCA and childcare facility. Take initiative to clean up/repair areas.
  • Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move 50-plus pounds.
  • The employee is sometimes required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this individual is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and potentially explosive materials.
  • The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree or Associates degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child Psychology or related field of study
  • Minimum of two years experience in Child Care with children under the age of 6 years.
  • Small or Large Center Child Care Director certification from the State of Colorado.
  • This position requires a good working knowledge of child care issues, problems, and potentials for YMCA growth in meeting community needs. This person must have a cooperative attitude in pooling resources from the community, other YMCAs and other child care agencies at large.
  • Requires knowledge about child development, child rearing and parent counseling.
  • Be able to give feedback to the Child Care budget preparation on the process of goals and direction setting, determining priorities, planning, designing methods and programs to achieve goals, and to identify and mobilize the manpower, volunteers and financial resources needed to achieve program plans; all in consultation with the Program Director.
  • Requires a clear understanding and commitment to the YMCA as a partnership relation of staff, volunteers and members.
  • Requires a current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid and Medication Administration.
  • This individual must also have an understanding of the respective roles of the Board of Advisors, the Child Care Committee, the volunteers and the general membership.
