Manager Software Engineering 1 will perform in a “dual-hat” software test technical lead role and as a section manager managing software integration & test personnel on legacy enterprise programs. This position reports into the Software Integration & Test Automation (SI&TA) Department at the San Diego Site. In addition to executing statement of work as a full-time SI&TA lead on programs, this position also performs functional homeroom duties.

Program Responsibilities include:

  • Manage software test teams and support integration and test activities for legacy enterprise programs
  • Coordinate and collaborate directly with software development and other engineering discipline teams to develop, write, document, and execute software requirement verification and integration tests, including identifying and tracking issues through resolution
  • Work with IFC management, Cost Account Managers (CAM), business analysts, and schedulers to manage schedules and cost budgets
  • Lead integration and troubleshooting of software components across multiple network domains
  • Support program statement of work by applying fundamentals of software engineering to all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle activities and the Agile process for critical mission system software products
  • Work on an Agile scrum team to execute and automate infrastructure maintenance and user services
  • Analyze software and system requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI)
  • Create, design, maintain and expand infrastructures to support software test automation utilizing COTS automation frameworks
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to develop innovative solutions to resolve challenging problems
  • Ensure that thorough, clear, and complete documentation is created and maintained to support current and future integration activities
  • Submit detailed problem reports for any anomalies identified during testing
  • Prepare for and conduct presentations and demonstrations to customers, program leadership, and other stakeholders

Functional section manager duties include:

  • Development and management of a cohesive and dedicated team of SI&TA engineers with diverse work experience backgrounds
  • Ensure team unity and the ability of the team to work effectively with other disciplines
  • Set operating objectives and provide guidance and mentoring to assigned employees
  • Assist programs with staffing demand, software integration, and automated test processes
  • Execute performance management processes for assigned employees
  • Review and make recommendations for promotions and special assignments
  • Ensure the assigned workforce is properly trained for successful achievement of program goals
  • Support technical oversight, independent reviews of major programs milestone events, and program proposals
  • Provide first-level resolution of personnel issues according to company processes and procedures

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree with 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one of the following automated test frameworks: Cucumber, Google Test, TestComplete, AQT, Atlas, Eggplant, Unit Test Factory, RTC, ATF, Python
  • Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, or C#
  • Experience in Agile Software methodologies – Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Git, Subversion, Confluence, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Must have United States Citizenship
  • DoD Interim Secret clearance to start and ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to travel at least 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the application of software integration and automated test processes, tools, procedures, and metrics
  • Proficient with at least one of the following languages C, C++, Python
  • Experience in complete software development lifecycle
  • Experience in Agile Software methodologies – Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Experience with software development in real-time embedded systems for military applications
  • Demonstrated experience with software test automation at multiple requirement levels
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Active in-scope Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Clearance
  • United States Passport, and ability and willingness to frequently travel overseas
  • Ensure that thorough, clear, and complete documentation is created and maintained to support current and future integration activities
  • Submit detailed problem reports for any anomalies identified during testing
  • Prepare for and conduct presentations and demonstrations to customers, program leadership, and other stakeholders


Salary Range: $123,200 USD - $184,800 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
