Manager/Senior Manager of Digital Content, Math

WHAT WE SEEK

The Manager/Senior Manager of Digital Content assists the Director of Digital Content with leading content development efforts that contribute to the innovation of instructional resources currently used by almost 600,000 students nationwide.

This role works with department staff, team authors, external vendors and partners, and engineers to shape and oversee digital content production efforts with a keen eye toward instructional design principles that best utilize interactive and linear media. This position may also support work to refine software tools, tutoring models, and other instructional resources that provide students with an engaging educational experience. This position contributes to the conceptualization, prototyping, development, and launch of new products and features to improve the overall digital curricular experience and product line. This position reports to the Director of Digital Content, and title may be commensurate with experience.

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Work to deeply understand the pedagogical philosophies and values embedded within Carnegie print materials in order to create digital complements that effectively carry forward these principles into new digital forms and solution components
  • Establish best practices and guidelines for development of linear and interactive media for instructional purposes, working closely with Editorial, Instructional Design, UX/UI Design, and Production.
    • Ensure blueprinting, storyboarding and scripting processes support effective delivery of high-quality digital components, while balancing risk and goals of efficiency to meet deadlines
    • Make plans to support iterative development, including cases of rolling delivery to market throughout the school year.
  • Lead a team to accomplish digital content development initiatives. (Note that while this position may not initially have direct reports, this position is likely to ultimately directly manage a team of 2-4 people.)

  • Work closely with the Director of Digital Content and supporting staff on day-to-day development of current and future digital implementations.
    • Use excellent people skills to lead and assist both the Digital Content and Engineering teams to plan, implement, debug, and problem-solve current and future implementations
    • Support colleagues on the Digital Content Team in their development and authoring work
    • Analyze user-generated data to identify possible improvements to digital products
    • Gain an understanding of the platform ecosystem and contribute to a healthy collaboration with platform and engineering partners, ensuring teachers and students can access and use digital content effectively
    • Ensure content is delivered on time and within budget

  • Work cross-functionally with other departments
    • Attend and contribute to the Content Stand-Up meetings
    • Work with the UI/UX Designers to manage technical relationships with third-party vendors and freelance artists that support DCT projects
    • Collaborate to establish processes, workflows and help to define the approach to developing new math products and features; train others (including vendor resources) to execute, providing oversight throughout the development process.
    • Participate in and lead special projects as required, prioritizing work alongside the Director of Digital Content.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Education, particularly with a focus on Curriculum and Instructional design
  • Strong background in user-centered design and development of linear and interactive media, with at least 5-7 years experience in curriculum development at scale
  • Teaching or tutoring experience (particularly in mathematics) is a plus.
  • Strong command of pedagogical best practices in teaching mathematics
  • Experience in people management and project oversight
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to create structure around complex tasks
