This is a semi-skilled manual work position requiring the application of skills and knowledge above the basic laboring level. Work is characterized by advanced manual tasks to include the operation of vehicles, less complex types of automotive type equipment, the use of specialized machines such as hand and power tools (blowers, edgers, trimmers, etc.), and mowers to maintain grounds. An employee in this class may also act as lead worker for intermittent periods.

Salary: $15.20 - $20.78 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

• Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.

• Have at least one year of progressive experience in grounds maintenance or a related field.

• Have some experience in plant installation and care.

• Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.

Desirable Qualifications: Preferred applicants:

• Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.

• Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License (CDL) with an “N” endorsement.

• Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Public Pesticide Applicator License for Ornamental & Turf Pest Control from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under provisions of Chapter 487 Florida Statutes.

• Have some basic supervisory experience.

• Have some computer knowledge.

• Have the ability to identify plant material.

• Are able to perform light maintenance and basic repairs of equipment and irrigation systems.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
