Job Title: Maintenance Worker

Department: Facilities

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Safety and Compliance Facility Manager

Days of Work: Part-time/15-20 hours week

Effective Date: March 2023

Primary Objective: The Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repairs. The maintenance worker will maintain and complete minor repairs and upkeep throughout the facility. In this position, the worker will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks to ensure the facility is tidy, safe, and functional.

Primary Responsibility: The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for ensuring the facilities are maintained and safe for clients and staff, including, but not limited to:

  • Perform minor fixes, such as repairing household items, damage to walls, etc.
  • Install necessary appliances and equipment as needed.
  • Check electrical outlets and electrical wiring to identify issues.
  • Maintain grounds, including garden and yard upkeep, trimming, edging, mowing lawn, etc.
  • Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot various equipment and systems such as alarms and sensors.
  • Test the functionality of the facility's safety systems.
  • Collaborate with a team of workers and other professionals during large projects.
  • Report to facility manager regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress.
  • Being reliable and self-motivated.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent The Covering House in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain the highest confidentiality.
  • Exhibit knowledge of abuse risk management and peer to peer abuse prevention policies.
  • Demonstrates and practices use of abuse risk management strategies and peer to peer abuse prevention to help maintain a safe environment.
  • Other job assignments as instructed by supervisor(s).

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position
  • Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Experience working with tools, including hand and electrical tools
  • Successful completion of on-site required trainings
  • Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and push/pull or resist force during a physical restraint. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time during transports, recreational activities, and outings. Must maintain a five-to-one child-to-staff ratio at the home at all times, per State regulations. May be required to required to assist at the Residential Facility as needed.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
