Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of kitchen, HVAC, air handlers, cooling coils, heat exchangers, mechanical, materials handling, laboratory, housekeeping, and other equipment; repairing and maintaining pumps, air compressors, medical gas, and vacuum systems; troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and failures and conducting repairs.
  • Basic troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems; identification of electrical problems; taking corrective action to repair electrical problems; repairs of light fixtures to include bulb, ballast, and locksmith.
  • Repair work may involve repairing/reworking locks and locking mechanisms such as monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms, sensors and other equipment in complete security or surveillance systems within the facility.
  • Performs a variety of duties involved in the installation, modifying, maintenance and repair of new and existing high temperature water and high/low pressure steam systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generation and hydraulic systems, expansion tanks, pumps, radiators. valves, lines.
  • Makes repairs to piping systems by soldering, glue joints, clamps, threaded joints, measures, cuts, and threads piping of various lengths, sizes, and types. Positions, secures, and connects piping systems such as toilets, sinks, work stands, drinking fountains, flush valves, eyewash stations, water coolers.
  • Work requires cutting and shaping of brick or stone, used of spirit and line level and plumb bob to assure straight courses and to achieve desired appearance and strength.
  • Performs duties involved in servicing such automotive and mobile equipment as riding mowers, Bobcats, forklifts, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, snow removal equipment, etc. Prepares requests for material, inventories items on hand, and records work accomplished on a daily report for labor and production reporting purposes

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to climb ladders; lift heavy loads over ninety (90) pounds; and walk long distances in a regular day's work. A great amount of kneeling, bending, reaching, crawling, squatting, stooping, and climbing may be required. Incumbent must wear safety and protective clothing and equipment prescribed for the work setting. Strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy/bulky materials. Working in awkward positions for extended periods of time may also be required.

Working Conditions: Work is conducted both inside and outside and may be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Incumbent may also be required to work in areas with poor lighting; in areas where clothes and skin can be soiled by grease, dust, steam, etc.; in areas with moderate or high noise levels; and in areas with limited working space. Incumbent works in all areas of the Medical Facility which may include areas potentially containing bloodborne pathogens. Incumbent may be exposed to gases, dust, dirt, mud, water, sawdust, smoke, electricity, sewage, excessive heat, fumes, etc. The potential risks for cuts, bruises, skin irritations, burns and contusions may also be present. Incumbent shall be provided any necessary universal protective items such as hardhats, protective clothing, caps, gloves, gowns, masks, face shields, respirators, safety glasses, hearing protection, or any other safety equipment deemed necessary for the specific working condition. Incumbent will be required to wear the appropriate universal protective items.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
