The purpose of this position is:

  • Fabricates tooling for production equipment with minor supervision from Facilities Leader, Operations Manager or Facilities Coordinator.
  • Supports product teams by taking an active role in problem solving tasks and team and plant-wide subgroups focusing on the plant goals of safety, quality, schedule and cost.

This position includes significant duties such as:

  • Takes oral specifications, blueprints, old parts, and models and visualizes finished product in order to determine materials required and machines to be used to best make parts
  • Computers dimensions using programs such as CAD; plans layouts and determines assembly methods and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes materials for machining
  • Uses hand tools as needed to fit and assemble parts
  • Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment using measuring devices such as dial indicators gauge blocks, thickness gages, and micrometers
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinder to machine parts
  • Assists setup and manufacturing technicians in troubleshooting/repairing production equipment
  • Performs predictive/preventative maintenance and assists with updating of predictive and preventative maintenance program
  • Assists with scope of work for contract and directs contractors on new installations and facility modifications
  • Cross trains peers on systems they have primary responsibility to maintain, ensuring redundancy (operation/minor troubleshooting) in the Facilities Group
  • Performs all work in compliance with all national and local codes

Working Conditions:

  • Somewhat disagreeable working conditions.
  • Works mostly in a machine shop or production environment.
  • Maintains clean work area and follows all safety precautions and regulations.
  • Lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds frequently, 65 pounds occasionally.
  • Exposed to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas.
  • Safety glasses, hair covering and hearing protection are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas.
  • Adheres to plant safety requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable.

Education:

  • Associates Degree in Tool Trade or Machinist Curriculum or High School Diploma/GED plus experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship in tool making or equivalent

Experience:

  • 8-10 years experience in machine shop, tool and die making, or industrial maintenance required
