Position: L.P.N.- Preop/PACU

Reports To: Director of Nursing

General Definition of Job Function

To ensure that all duties assigned are done in a timely manner and to participate in patient care.

Responsibilities and Duties

Perform the following duties on a daily basis or as needed:

· Demonstrate awareness of patients’ concerns and a willingness to address them.

· Avoid and prevent casual discussion of patient’s surgery among employees.

· Ensure patients’ safety and comfort.

· Observe pertinent changes in symptoms of patients’ condition and take appropriate action; report to physician

· Document all pertinent messages or communication with patient in patient’s chart.

· Perform pre- and postoperative assessments with patients.

· Perform preop medical history phone calls.

· Send tissue specimens to the pathology lab and scan report.

· Follow-up on pathology reports making sure a copy is in the patient chart.

· Maintain area and maintain inventory par levels

· Pull supplies and prepare in advance for surgical procedures.

· Review preoperative charts to ensure all lab studies and necessary paperwork are available for surgery.

· Be prepared for all cases at the scheduled surgery times.

· Complete Recovery Room Records.

· Keep patient in Recovery Room until stable for discharge.

· Clean and restock appropriate / assigned areas.

· Perform chart audits for surgical center.

· Report any incidents, variances, quality, risk management issues to ASC Manager in appropriate time frame

· Report any surgeon requests/complaint

· Assist with postoperative patient follow-up.

· Pull required paperwork for pre-operative appointments.

· Check charts for completeness.

· Initiate communication to management in areas that require feedback, follow-up, or need to be addressed.

· Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained in the surgery center .

· Other duties as assigned.

Principle Accountability

Provide nursing services to ensure the center’s objectives are achieved in an effective, timely, and efficient manner.

Qualifications for the Position

Holds current state licensure as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Georgia; demonstrates current competency in those clinical responsibilities as listed previously.

Nursing skills obtained through applicable job experience and/or appropriate education; strong sense of professionalism; ability to organize work according to priorities; maturity and tact in dealing with patients, clients, and co-workers; ability to maintain a helpful and positive regard for the patient and family.
