StoneMors Legal team is looking for an experienced, creative, and energized Litigation Paralegel to assist and support supervising attorneys and internal clients on various moderate to highly complex legal activities. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic, collegial and growing Legal department in an organization with 370+ locations across 23+ States. The Impact You Will Make

  • Help support the Companys overall docket of employment, commercial and general liability matters, pre-litigation disputes, and regulatory investigations.
  • Respond to requests for legal support from field staff.
  • Respond to questions, subpoenas, requests for records and other discovery requests in collaboration with internal counsel or assigned outside counsel.
  • Prepare, draft and review interrogatories/answers.
  • Review materials for discovery requests.
  • Assist with deposition preparation, pre-trial investigations, trial preparation, including assistance with the preparation of witnesses for deposition, trial, mediation or arbitration.
  • Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence for use at trial and other dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Draft responses to regulatory complaints, including EEOC complaints.
  • Prepare and draft employment-related agreements.
  • Perform fact investigations and general claim pursuit, including interviewing personnel in other departments.
  • Review, organize, and summarize reports and other case materials.
  • Conduct basic legal research and analyzes statutes, regulations and judicial decisions.
  • Creates new matters and manages existing matters using the Companys legal management software for outside counsel. Provides preliminary review of invoices from outside counsel.
  • Assists in the implementation of legal-related processes, policies, and technologies.
  • Works with appropriate departments/functions within the Company to ensure implementation of policies or actions when necessary.
  • Understand the Companys business, its core values, its people, products, services, industry and regulatory requirements in order to assist the business in meeting its overall objectives.
  • Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Complete other projects as assigned by supervising attorney.

About You

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors/four-year degree.
  • 4+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to handle significant case volume with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion and good judgment.
  • Candidate must exercise initiative and possess strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational/management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Good team-player, self-confident, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proactive approach to risk mitigation.
  • Ability to propose creative, business-oriented solutions.
  • Ability to handle evolving priorities in a dynamic environment in a thoughtful and practical manner.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, and Google Chrome. Familiarity with Serengeti/Legal Tracker is a plus.

Other:

  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.
