Positions Location: East Lansing, MI


General Purpose

Under the supervisor of the Aquatics Supervisor, the LGI (Lifeguard Instructor) is responsible for holding weekly/monthly training for MAC caregivers in CPR, first aid, lifeguard certification and Inservice training with aquatic staff. Furthermore, he/she is to provide assistance to all patrons, as well as communicate the aquatics rules and regulations.


Essential Duties

  • Run monthly lifeguard certifications for new caregivers and recertifications for current lifeguards.
  • Use preventative lifeguard skills by enforcing the established pool rules and guidelines provided
  • Provide lifeguard staff in-service training such as evaluating and improving lifeguard and CPR skills, reviewing the Emergency Action Plan, First-Aid training or any other aquatic related activity deemed necessary.
  • Support operations by appropriately representing the MAC in all forums and by demonstrating commitment to MAC philosophy, mission, goals, policies and procedures.
  • Any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the MAC management.
  • Supervise and implement Special events in the aquatics center.
  • Have ability to demonstrate sound judgment during stressful situations and make good decisions
  • Be responsible for following opening and closing procedures and unlocking and locking up pool areas

Job Requirements

General Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, First Aid and lifeguard training certifications.

Work Experience

  • Must have at least 1 year of running/organizing lifeguard training or in-services

Education

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Must pass a skills test prior to employment. • Must be able to pass Preventive Disease Transmission and Administering Emergency Oxygen Training within 60 days of hiring. • Must be well-groomed and professional in appearance. • Must be able to communicate in a positive manner with staff, the public and other teammates • Must have decision making skills • Must have good interpersonal skills • Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills • Must be able to communicate in a positive manner with staff, the public and other teammates • Maintaining a dynamic and personable attitude
