Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff for the Summer 2023 Season!

Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating. Our camp also has an archery range, low ropes challenge course, zip line, duck pin bowling, equestrian center, rock wall, gaga pit, volleyball court, and more.

Lifeguard Responsibilities:

• Follow and enforce all safety rules and regulations of the waterfront
• Attend pre-camp training
• Follow guidelines of the American Red Cross in swimming and boating instruction procedures
• Maintain alertness for campers in the water and their needs
• Lead and assist in swimming lessons and oversight of boating activities
• Report any waterfront concerns to the Waterfront Director
• Maintain cleanliness of waterfront, equipment, and surrounding areas
• Assist Program Director with implementation of rainy day programs
• Learn and perform emergency procedures effectively
• Promote high camper and staff morale
• Understand and practice waterfront procedures, health, and safety
• Perform other duties as assigned

Lifeguard Qualifications:

• Must be 16+ years of age
• Valid certification in LGT, Waterfront Lifeguard Module, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid
• Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights
• Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time
• Knowledge of and ability to enforce Girl Scout, American Camp Association, and NJ Youth Camp safety procedures
• Must be attentive, efficient, and timely
• Regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language
• Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners
• Membership in GSUSA is required for the duration of contracted employment period
• Experience in supervision strongly preferred
