Summary of Position:

The KIA seeks an energetic, organized individual to support the KIA’s mission and staff through library resources, services, and programs. The Librarian manages all aspects of KIA Library operations including development and maintenance of all collections and is responsible for providing excellent reference, information, and circulation service to public, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference service with priority given to KIA staff and faculty, followed by art reference needs of KIA members, students, and general public in that order as time permits.

  • Maintain and process all library collections including monographs, periodicals, slides, electronic resources, video/DVDs, and artist files ensuring up-to-date catalog and records according to Library of Congress/MARC standards.

  • Make additions to and withdrawals from library collections guided by Library Collection Development Policy and input of patrons, with priority given to KIA staff and faculty needs.

  • Maintain Archives files including institutional publications and documents, images, and clippings in accordance with Archives Policy.

  • Oversee or perform a variety of administrative tasks including:

    • Keep library cardholder database updated

    • Maintain library use statistics

    • Add new titles

    • Send overdue correspondence and notices

    • Order library materials, equipment, and supplies

    • Process and acknowledge book donations according to KIA and library procedures

    • Sale/disposal of withdrawn and donated materials

  • Coordinate and organize the monthly book club discussions by securing titles that support exhibitions and education programming or that speak to the KIA’s permanent collection. Ensure each discussion is facilitated by relevant speakers both internal and external to the KIA.

  • Work collaboratively with local and regional library and literacy-based organizations.

  • Train, schedule, supervise, and assist with recruiting of volunteer library assistants.

  • Promote library use through outreach, programs, and materials.

  • Prepare annual budget and monitor expenses monthly.

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree of Library Science required

  • At least two years of experience in a library setting

  • Experience with library automated systems, technology, and electronic resources

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proven ability to work independently and supervise others

  • Knowledge of art and art history a plus

  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team setting within the department and collaborate across the organization. Effective project and time management, organizational, teaching, and research skills are necessary

  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity and inclusion

  • Experience working with volunteers, program and budget development, project management and planning skills along with an ability to meet deadlines are necessary

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms and design software is desirable

Physical Job Requirements:

While performing this job, the employee will be required to sit, stand and work, to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, do close work with a computer monitor and perform repetitive hand movements. Employee required to be able to have written and verbal conversations.
