Job Requirements

Role Purpose
The Legal & Compliance Officer is responsible for reviewing and drafting commercial contracts, including but not limited to reinsurance, marketing, general agent, real estate, etc., and provides legal counsel; facilitates the company’s local and international business transactions; monitors compliance with applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to trade and economic sanctions, among others; implements and enforces regulatory and corporate policies; and conducts legal research.
Key Responsabilities

• Provide legal advice to business executives, managers and company staff.
• Negotiate and draft contracts with clients, brokers, insurance companies and service providers, among others.
• Collaborate with executives, business managers, lawyers, compliance personnel and support staff business units in the design, development, and testing of internal control systems.
• Monitor applicable laws and regulations, in order to assure that appropriate internal control programs are in place.
• Communicate complex regulatory issues to management and internal staff in a way that ensures an understanding of compliance issues.
• Manage regulatory complaints and administrative proceedings.
• Perform specials projects and other related duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Requirements

• Bachelor’s s Degree in Business Administration, preferable.
• Juris Doctor Degree.
• Admitted to the Puerto Rico State Bar.
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills along with the ability to plan organize and prioritize, whilst working in a constant changing environment.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
• Strong ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken manner in both English and Spanish

Experience

• One (1) to three (3) years of previous In-House experience. Financial Institution, preferable.
