The Lean Support Advisor with our Integrated Logistics Services (ILS) division will hold responsibility for leading, facilitating, and coaching teams to improve critical processes that help our customers’ and business success. The Lean Support Advisor will actively support Lean improvement strategies, lead waste elimination projects, and build Lean organizational capabilities for operational and transactional ILS teams globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and supports sustainable process improvement by diagnosing business problems and providing recommended treatment plans to deliver process improvements through the implementation of Lean Principles (facilitating Lean workshops, developing other facilitators, and project follow-up)
    • 50% of the time is spent supporting Lean initiatives in operations and 25% supporting Lean initiatives in other transactional areas (Transportation, Trade Operations, Packaging, etc.)
  • Supports the development of lean capability across the division. This will include developing and sharing various Lean communications, driving Lean training, and ensuring appropriate linkage to corporate Lean direction
  • Provide cross-functional technical expertise to functional teams in the deployment of Lean to drive process transformation aligned with improvement strategies
  • Provide supplemental coaching and support to fully engage the team in driving the needed cultural changes to achieve sustainable Lean capabilities in pursuit of business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong credibility by through the creation of positive work relationships
  • Influence senior leaders by making a credible case for change based on their experience and Lean technical capabilities
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Engineering or Business
  • 7-10 years’ experience in core Lean methodologies and tools such as value stream mapping, value-add problems solving and analysis
  • Ability to be a master problem solver, coach, and developer of others
  • Previous team leadership experience
  • Previous experience in Operations, Transactional, and Support processes
  • Solid project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time


Top candidates will also have:

  • Experience leading a global team
  • Experience as a 6 Sigma/Caterpillar Production Systems (CPS)/Lean Black Belt
  • Experience in strategy development and deployment with a record of strong execution
  • Cross-functional knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Manufacturing/Operations
    • Supply Chain
    • Quality Engineering
    • Finance/Accounting
    • Human Resources
    • Information Technology
    • Sales and Marketing
