Code Enforcement Officers enforce Manatee County codes, ordinances and statutes to protect consumers, property values, environmentally-sensitive lands, infrastructure and property. Code Enforcement operates in 11 zones with an officer in each one.

Code Enforcement Officer IAn officer’s goal is to protect and improve the quality of life of Manatee County citizens by enforcing the Manatee County Land Development Code, County Code of Ordinances, and applicable State Statutes. Our officers investigate alleged code violations involving unlicensed contractors, property maintenance issues, and abandoned or improperly parked vehicles, as well as other matters under the jurisdiction of the Code Enforcement Division. They collaborate with residents, property owners and other stakeholders to gain voluntary compliance. When voluntary compliance cannot be obtained code enforcement officers will issue citations and testify in court. Officers are expected to learn their assigned area and become engaged in community meetings (i.e. HOA) and other events.

What You Will Do


  • Code Enforcement Officers are trained and equipped to protect and improve the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life of the citizens in our communities through the enforcement of Codes (i.e. building, zoning, housing, land development, animal control, fire safety, environmental, etc.), Ordinances, and Statutes.
  • To protect consumers, property values, environmentally sensitive lands (i.e. wetlands, conservation areas, etc.), infrastructure and property.
  • Identify overgrown yards and property maintenance violations.
  • Remove unpermitted signs.
  • Investigate the operation of offices/businesses operated in residential areas.
  • Inspect unsafe structures,
  • Respond to light/noise disturbances.


Who You Are
  • Able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Organizes own work and completes tasks within assigned timeframes. Able to independently resolve routine situations and problems.
  • Able to evaluate evidence and other data and make sound decisions regarding the best course of action to take.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and e?ectively with co-workers, management, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to explain facts, policies, and practices. Able to use tact and diplomacy in situations that may involve angry or frustrated citizens.
  • Works under moderate supervision.
  • Able to work independently or with a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 or more years of work in code enforcement, the enforcement of laws, planning and zoning, building construction or similar field.
  • Level I certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) or obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License (valid Florida driver’s license must be obtained within 30 of hire).
  • A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
