POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of general maintenance and repair functions to include basic engine maintenance, including fluid level checking, engine starting and operation. Perform weed trimming and grass mowing. Must have the ability to perform basic labor activities, such as shoveling, raking, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds and conduct common housekeeping chores such as office cleaning and shoveling snow.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred. Zero to five (0-5) years of directly-related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, including apprenticeship program or vocational/technical school, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed below.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic knowledge of and demonstrated experience with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and custodial work
  • Basic repair and maintenance techniques and practices
  • Familiarity with safe work practices and policies as well as safe driving rules and practices
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance for small engine generators, sump pumps
  • Basic inventory and recordkeeping practices

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and understand work orders and organize work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively and amicably with other people
  • Ability to learn new methods and systems
  • Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Ability to hear and speak, to communicate in-person and over a telephone and/or radio
  • Skilled in the operation and minor maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and power equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work independently or in a team situation
  • Ability to communicate and effectively interact with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic maintenance problems and determine solutions

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Required to wear proper Construction PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots and gloves
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
  • Ability to pass HAZWOPER physical, respirator fit test and random drug screens
  • Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required
  • BeLPT Test Required

CERTIFICATIONS:

None required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour certification
  • CPR/First Aid Training

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Diagnose and repair plumbing systems
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems
  • Perform a wide variety of general maintenance repairs and services
  • Conduct weed trimming, grass mowing (both push mower and zero turn mower)
  • Perform basic labor activities, such as shoveling, raking, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Conduct common housekeeping chores such as office cleaning and shoveling snow
  • Document repair(s) made according to procedure

MENTAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS:

  • Communication – ability to read and interpret manufacturer maintenance and repair manuals; ability to write routine work orders; ability to communicate clearly and succinctly on a basic and technical level
  • Skills – basic computer skills; basic maintenance and repair aptitude
  • Reasoning – ability to solve practical problems; ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions
  • Use varied hand and power tools and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment
  • Muscular strength and flexibility to climb ladders, stretch, bend, lift and carry equipment and materials
  • Ability to physically navigate rough terrain throughout a full day

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal office conditions when not in the field. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When working outdoors, employee may be exposed to environmental hazards, extreme weather conditions, and loud noise.
