Job Summary

Work involves the operation of the computer system used to determine gross, net and tare weights of vehicles utilizing landfill facilities. This position is responsible for collecting monies through receiving and receipting landfill tickets and fees.


  • Provides initial and direct customer service to residents and companies entering the landfill.
  • Use scales, computerized and mechanical to determine tare and net weights for landfill payments due from residential and commercial customers.
  • Knowledge of waste being disposed to surmise the size and type of load rapidly and effectively for average of 250 customers daily and give directions to dump site.
  • Visually inspect and reject vehicles entering the Landfill with suspicious loads that might contain hazardous wastes or wastes that are not permitted in the landfill. Report any suspicious loads.
  • Operate cash registers to receipt and secure monies while appropriately processing software system receipts.
  • Answer telephones, explain landfill services, billing methods and special requirements to the public.
  • Review and reconcile system generated revenue transmittal reports for daily gate receipts against charge accounts, credit cards, cash, and check payments.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Hours for this position are a 40 hour work week M-F that rotates between 6:30-3:30, 7:30-4:30 and 8-5 and a rotating Saturday 7:30-4:30.

Qualifications and Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year administrative, clerical or related work involving public contact.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • School or technical courses in business, bookkeeping or accounting.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed indoors with exposure to fumes and loud noise from equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is sedentary in nature involving sitting, occasional standing, walking, bending, crawling and lifting less than 10 pounds.
