This position will be in support of the Navy Marine Corps Public Health Center’s (NMCPHC) Drug Screening laboratory located in Great Lakes Illinois. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to NMCPHC.


HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to perform laboratory procedures to assist supervisors with various testing, assays, and experiments. Provides support in various areas of a laboratory as needed. Complies with laboratory quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) plans and procedures. The candidate will be responsible for the accessioning of forensic specimens for analysis in support of drug abuse testing.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides test and evaluation of material and specimen submissions received from supported sites.
  • Evaluates acceptability of submissions and prepares them for forensic testing.
  • Supports clinical testing activities and data entry in high throughput laboratory.
  • Ensures proper specimen handling, verifies specimens and conducts accessioning in accordance with policy and procedures using a high level of accuracy and precision.
  • Documents testing results and records observations in accordance with good practice quality guidelines, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical knowledge of scientific disciplines.
  • Knowledge of and skill in laboratory technique and handling biological and chemical hazards and their safe use and disposal.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
