Job description
Responsible for phlebotomy procedures to include bleeding time test, blood cultures, obtaining blood samples from neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; performing glucose testing at the bedside; and performing waived or moderate complexity Point of Care testing at the bedside for patients in the Emergency Department. Also assists in clerical duties of the department; including patient registration, specimen processing, and quality assurance documentation as needed.
As part of the job description of all employees of the Onslow County Hospital Authority, the employee may be directed to render services within the scope of his/her job description to an affiliate of the Onslow County Hospital Authority pursuant to an arrangement between the two entities. In such instances, the employee will be acting within the scope of his/her employment by the Authority, as an employee whose services have been leased to the affiliated entity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous laboratory experience and/or completion of an approved phlebotomy course
- Experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting preferred
- Familiar with typing/computer keyboard
- Excellent customer relation skills
- Mathematical, verbal, and written skills at the high school level
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Medium work of lifting up to 30 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds
- Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects
- Frequent contact with water (frequent handwashing and cleaning)
- Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress
- Hazardous working conditions in which employee is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals, and/or body fluids
