Overview:
Fairview Range is looking for an Instrument Technician/Unit Assistant to join our Surgical Services team in Hibbing, MN. With over 55 physicians, Fairview Range Medical Center has the largest surgical staff on the Iron Range with a variety of surgical services offered in areas such as ENT, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Podiatry, and General Surgery. We are a Level IV trauma center, and perform emergency, inpatient, and outpatient surgeries and procedures.

The instrument tech assists in the direct and indirect perioperative patient care under the direction of an RN. Additionally, the instrument tech is responsible to decontaminate, clean, assemble and sterilize reusable patient care equipment and instruments; maintains autoclaves and HLD systems; maintenance and ordering of supplies; and performing other duties as assigned. This is a temporary part time position working 48-64 hours per two weeks, 8-hour Day shifts, and weekends as needed.

  • 4 operating rooms
  • 17 Same Day Surgery cubicles
  • 6 recovery room cubicles
  • Average of more than 3000 surgical procedures per year
  • Multidisciplinary care team including Physicians, APPs, CRNAs, RNs, Surgical Techs, Instrument Tech/Unit Assistants

Responsibilities/Job Description:
  • Transports patients in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Assist in obtaining information from the patient and/or significant other about patient special care needs and report to RN.
  • Responsible for maintenance of instruments and equipment.
  • Properly cleans, sorts, and assembles all instruments according to established guidelines.
  • Sterilizes instruments and distributes to appropriate areas.
  • Monitor inventory stock levels and order as needed.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a nursing aide program or equivalent.
  • BLS certification

Preferred:

  • Completion of a Certified Instrument Technician program.
  • Experience in sterile processing.
  • Current Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, sterile processing, HLD.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and retain medical information and terms.
  • Able to learn and retain working knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
