The oncology triage nurse provides clinically expert triage service within a provider's practice. In their role, the triage nurse works closely with Oncology/Hematology Providers in assessment of patient symptoms, providing patient/family education regarding symptom management, and is instrumental in the coordination of care for patients starting new therapies for cancer and hematology diagnoses. The oncology triage nurse works in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and services to meet patient needs, including social services, palliative care and hospice care.

RN Responsibilities: Triage nurses must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to function as part of a highly effective team that prioritizes patient care and experience. Establish positive first impressions with patients and customers, establishing a role as patient advocate. Triage all incoming telephone calls and electronic messages, prioritizing and resolving, involving the provider as appropriate, successfully completing the communication cycle. Document all communications in the electronic medical record. Facilitates scheduling patient for visit with Provider when telephone assessment indicates need. Assist in obtaining appointment for patients with specialists within JH and with outside partners. Provide education to patients and staff concerning clinical issues. Facilitate oral chemotherapeutic regimens, including prescription management, prescription refills, assessing patient for regimen compliance, and creating/educating patient regarding oral agent regimen calendar.

Required

  • Current Washington state RN license in good standing
  • BLS Certification required

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Two years' experience in hospital/clinic environment preferred
  • Two years or more experience in an oncology setting preferred

Schedule

1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week; Day Shift; Days may vary, are expected to be Monday-Friday
