POSITION OVERVIEW

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Pavement Engineer in our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) and Construction Engineering Services (CES) Groups based in Lone Tree, Colorado. Unique to this position are CES tasks that involve on-site pavement mixture production process control and quality assurance oversight. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the Design-Build/Alternative delivery of infrastructure projects.

Typical project deliverables include design reports, memorandums, and letters. These deliverables provide technical analysis, technical interpretations, and professional recommendations; all these project deliverables are subject to KIE’s Design Quality Management Plan.

The Senior-Level Pavement Engineer must be capable of working independently to progress toward scheduled deliverable dates. The successful candidate must also possess strong time-management skills and the ability to delegate and direct work to mid-level and junior staff members (including seasonal interns and rotational staff). The ability to manage and/or perform multiple tasks on numerous projects is required.

Pavement Engineering is a specialty engineering service that has high visibility with Project and district management; professionalism is always expected. Continued job-related learning (Kiewit University, Professional Engineer Continued Education, personal professional development) is encouraged and expected.

LOCATION

This role will be based out of Kiewit’s Lone Tree, Colorado (South Denver area) office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead pavement teams for major complex projects; performing as Engineer of Record, Task Manager, or Discipline Lead
  • Provide oversight and direction to the pavement team,
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate mid-level and junior staff,
  • Lead a team of experienced staff, promote staff development through training, mentoring, and career planning,
  • Develop Alternative Technical Concepts (ATCs) for pursuits,
  • Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible,
  • Oversee/create preliminary design concepts and alternatives for pavements to support cost estimating,
  • Develop project communications and attend technical meetings, provide coordination to resolve design issues,
  • Prepare and implement quality management plans,
  • Lead quality control reviews, comment resolution meetings, and verify corrections are completed,
  • Manage scope, schedule and budget for the pavement design team,
  • Execute final pavement
  • Provide Quality Control and Quality Assurance as needed during construction to ensure pavement placement quality.
  • Lead project and department level meetings,
  • Interface with project stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide leadership/guidance to team members

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in pavements or transportation materials related engineering field
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer,
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing,
  • High Emotional Intelligence
  • 25+ years of civil / highway design experience,
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior staff,
  • Experience developing construction plans for transportation projects,
  • Experience leading teams,
  • Experience with design-build/alternative delivery,
  • Interpret/learn/apply client specific design methodologies, specifications, and standards
  • Engineering report writing and publishing
  • Pavement Design & Analysis (Client Specific Methodology, AASHTO ’93, AASHTO Pavement ME, Multi-Layer Linear Elastic Analysis, Finite Element)
  • Pavement Material Characterization (Asphalt, Concrete, Base Courses, Subgrades)
  • Pavement Vehicle Loading (highway, aircraft, LRT, heavy construction equipment)
  • Pavement Construction Methods (Material Production, Paving, Pavement Rehabilitation)
  • Pavement forensics/research regarding pavement performance
  • Interpreting Pavement Materials quality/process control data
  • Proportioning and reviewing pavement mixes (Asphalt, Concrete, treated bases, stabilized subgrades)
  • Analysis of pavement profile, falling weight deflectometer, ground penetrating radar, and pavement friction testing
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD platforms preferred,

Base Compensation: $120,000 - $200,000
