E.A. Hawse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is seeking an Infection Control Registered Nurse/Infection Preventionist at our Baker, WV location.
E. A. Hawse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center opened in 1985 and is a 60 person care center specializing in skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation to home, and long-term care services.
Job Description:
  • The IP possesses clinical expertise and utilizes critical thinking skills to engage in practices of infection risk assessment, surveillance analysis, investigation and control of healthcare acquired infections and outbreaks.
  • The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control Program of the facility.
  • The IP facilitates methods for safety prevention and control of infectious diseases for all patients, team members, volunteers and visitors through ongoing research and the integration of evidenced-based best practices, education/training, policy development, observation of practices through rounding and formal evaluation of the effectiveness of all infection prevention efforts.
  • The IP collaborates with Leadership, other healthcare professionals, community agencies and follows the standards and regulations from the CDC, Department of Health (DOH), CMS, OSHA, and the state of West Virginia.
  • As an Infection Preventionist you must be patient/family focused, loyal, motivated and interested in the wellbeing of our team members and community.
  • The IP practices autonomously within professional nursing standards, the Code of Ethics and the Bill of Rights.
  • Effectively uses and role models current leadership techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.
  • Ensures that information disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as needed.
  • Understands and enforces policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Infection Control Program. Including but not limited to the development of procedures, policies and employee/community education.
  • Responsible for Antibiotic Stewardship Program
  • Responsible for monitoring and tracking data related to infectious diseases and community spread at the national and state level.
  • Participate in monthly QA.
  • Develops or assist in the development of action plans related to an effective Infection Control Program.
  • Responsible for documentation, written or electronic, of the infection prevention and control program and its surveillance, prevention and control activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Active RN license.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred or eligible within 1 year.
