Summary:

Under the direction of the Vice President of retail lending, the indirect lending manager is responsible for overall loan operations management and oversight of the indirect lending operations staff including; indirect funding, dealer representatives, and support functions. Will create, amend and implement system processes and procedures to ensure accurate and timely processing of indirect dealer contracts. Leads, trains, and supervises the indirect staff and ensures department meets organizational goals. Conduct continuous review of all indirect funding policies and procedures and make recommendations to VP retail lending. Responsible for the implementation of any changes approved. Resolves non-routine problems and follows-up on difficult situations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Management and Supervision:

  • Plan, direct and coordinate the work of employees engaged in providing efficient and courteous service to members and dealer partners.
  • Provide for an adequate workforce and employee development.
  • Select, assign and schedule personnel and ensure efficient performance of work. Implement and ensure compliance with credit union policies and procedures as well as federal regulations.
  • Modify and adapt existing procedures to meet unusual requirements.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties, develop and maintain work flows for all stages of indirect loan process.
  • Anticipate and/or investigate causes for inadequate results and take corrective action within limits of credit union policy.
  • Maintain a variety of records, reports, and loan production and employee performance metrics.
  • Ability to apply the credit unions vision, values and priorities in all decisions.

Loan Responsibilities:

  • Acquire loan officer certification within 120 days of hire date and retain loan officer certification by meeting both quality and minimum loan underwriting volume standards.
  • Partner with the member loan center manager to review loan applications and associated work to provide quality control.
  • Partner with the member loan center manager to answer questions and provide direction regarding processes and procedures and exception requests received from dealer partners.
  • Ensure all decisions appropriately balance member service with risk to the credit union.

Indirect Lending Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ongoing review of all indirect underwriting guidelines and policies and make change recommendations to VP retail lending.
  • Monitor production from individual dealers on both a quality and quantity basis and insure that loans are funded in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain two-way communications with dealers to ensure our program stays competitive in the market place.
  • Help grow this source of business to meet the objectives of the strategic plan.
  • Work closely with the indirect dealer representatives to ensure they are seeking out new partnerships with dealers throughout our field of membership.
  • Review dealer activity, including risk rating evaluation for each dealership on a monthly basis to ensure a balanced indirect portfolio.

Technology:

  • Maintain and demonstrate proficiency with loan origination system (LOS).
  • Works with the loan operation software to maximize the credit union’s use without accepting unwarranted risk.
  • Works with the credit union information technology department to utilize applications to fullest capacity, streamline processes and procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Work with third party vendors such as Dealer Track and Route One to ensure communication between the credit union and dealer partners is functioning correctly.
  • Works with credit bureaus to ensure uninterrupted service for loan applications within the LOS and monitoring expenses for same.

Meetings:

  • Conduct functional staff meetings as appropriate, and participate in dealer partner meetings to provide support and updates regarding dealer performance.
  • Make recommendations on the improvement of operations, dealer relations, and budget planning.

Productivity and Communications:

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of open communications, efficient productivity and good employee and member relations.
  • Provide support in employee relation matters, systems development and plans for improvement and productivity.
  • Ensure indirect lending staff is provided with updates and procedural changes.
  • Work with other areas of the credit union such as member solutions, lending administration, professional development, branch operations, etc. to monitor and improve loan quality, reduce risk to the credit union and improve service to members.

Training and Performance Appraisal:

  • Direct, assist and train subordinate employees.
  • Appraise work performance; make recommendations on new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations.
  • Discipline as required and collaborate with VP retail lending on employee relations matters and adherence to credit union personnel policies and procedures.
  • Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others.

Other: Perform other related duties as assigned or associated with responsibility.

Additional: Responsible for completion of applicable training and compliance on federal regulations and APGFCU policies and procedures as related to the duties of this position (Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security as examples, if applicable).


Qualifications:

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field with broad knowledge of federal laws, regulations and practices concerning consumer lending and familiarity in financial security procedures. Experience and certifications can be credited in lieu of education.

Experience: A minimum of five years’ financial services, indirect lending and dealer finance industry experience and a minimum of three years leadership experience. Loan operations management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Broad knowledge of federal laws, regulations and practices concerning depository services, consumer lending and a familiarity in financial security procedures. Must have the ability to lead, manage and motivate human resources, make decisions, work independently toward general results in a fast-paced environment and be part of a team.
