Brief Job Summary
This position is responsible for the determination of client eligibility for various income maintenance programs. Job Responsibilities
o Accurately determines or re-determines the eligibility of applicants or recipients for assigned income maintenance programs.

o Interviews clients to acquire information pertinent to the application or re-determination process; provides information and answers questions; informs clients regarding other assistance programs.

o Researches and analyzes eligibility factors; makes critical decisions regarding eligibility of federal and state programs.

o Effectively communicates to clients of various backgrounds and educational levels how state and federal regulations impact their individual situations.

o Prepares and maintains extensive documentation of the evaluation and assessment process.

o Maintains caseload to facilitate compliance with state deadlines.

o Referrals possible fraudulent activities to Fraud Investigator.

o Maintains a daily log of all programs, activities, and transactions.

o Attends workshops and training sessions.

o Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
o Graduation for an associates degree program in human services technology, social services, paralegal technology, business administration, secretarial science, or a closely related curriculum; or

o Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which include negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analysis of data and performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at lease one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or

o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Income Maintenance Caseworker Knowlege & Skill Requirements - o Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as they relate to assigned income maintenance programs.

o Knowledge of county and agency policies.

o Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of public assistance.

o Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

o Skill in mathematical reasoning and computation.

o Skill in communicating with clients, applicants, and the public to obtain data and to explain and interpret rules, policies, and procedures.

o Skill in understanding the needs and problems of clients/applicants.

o Skill in learning the program area of assignment and all agency programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.

o Skill in oral and written communication.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. Supervisory Controls
