Position Description:
An employee in this class monitors continual compliance with all program requirements, responds to the clients’ requests and needs for assistance, provides input to the supervisor on programmatic issues, and closes the case when a client is no longer eligible for services. The Income Maintenance Caseworker is also responsible for determining when a referral to Program Integrity is necessary. An employee in this position must be efficient and have excellent organizational skills in order to maintain a current and every-changing or increasing caseload. Work requires tact and courtesy in dealing with clients on sensitive or confidential matters. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Income Maintenance Supervisor II. The schedule is a full day on Tuesday & Wednesday and 1/2 a day on Friday.

Responsibilities:
  • Obtains necessary information for application, redetermination, and changes in the client’s situation.
  • Verifies information by contacting those persons and various organizations as listed by personal contact, telephone, letters, as well as assessing all available automated verification resources and investigating discrepancies.
  • Investigate all sources to determine eligibility of the client, to clarify policy, verify information and legal aspects of the program, and problem solving. Sources include but are not limited to all medical facilities, attorneys, financial institutions, insurance companies, county and regional offices, utility providers, and other related agencies.
  • Processes the application in accordance with program policy and procedures in order to determine eligibility.
  • Complete all data entry forms and notify the client as to the status of their eligibility.
  • Attends required training.
  • Obtains data for documentation and verification of information needed in determining eligibility, need for other agency services, and appropriate referrals.
  • Educates clients and the community about the availability of benefits and interprets state and federal guidelines.
  • Engages in enrollment and eligibility of Medicaid activities including intake, acceptance, eligibility determination, output, case maintenance, customer service and routine update/inquiries into NC FAST.
Qualifications:
  • One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker I and graduation from an accredited Associate’s degree program in human services technology, social services associate, paralegal technology, business administration, secretarial science or a closely related curriculum; or
  • Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which includes interviewing, explaining information, gathering and analysis of data, with at least one year of experience being in an income maintenance program; or
  • Graduation from high school and three years of experience in the same; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
