Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: This position supports the mission of North Suburban Medical Center of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Hyperbaric Technician (HT) demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to operate the hyperbaric chamber. When operating the chamber, the HT insures adherence to the treatment profile, staff decompression and life safety policies. The HT demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide general and age appropriate medical care to patients in the hyperbaric chamber and clinic area. The HT fills a supportive role for those patients requiring physician or nursing intervention. When in the chamber, the HT oversees life safety of all staff and patients, provides oxygen administration, and observes patient tolerance of the treatment and other general patient care needs as required. Duties also include on call responsibilities, chamber system maintenance & infection control, process improvement, quality assurance, record keeping and miscellaneous rotating duties as assigned. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What qualifications you will need:

• Current certification in an allied health field. Hyperbaric Technologist certification preferred. AHA or ARC BLS certification required.
• Formal education in an allied health field. Completion of a formal course in hyperbaric medicine theory and operation.
• Minimum of six months in the field of hyperbaric medicine or a related field. One to three years of experience is desirable.
• Works well with patients and families. Strong interpersonal, assessment and critical thinking skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of hyperbaric operational theory and practice. Must pass an annual medical fitness screening.
• Involves general guidance and direction by the Technical Director of Hyperbaric Medicine. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
