POSITION:


Human Resources Specialist

Central Office


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Two years of college or technical school OR three to five years of secretarial experience OR an equivalent combination of training/experience
  • Understanding of HR functions, exposure to payroll practices, and HR administration
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and applications related to spreadsheets, word processing, and database management
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Human Resources experience in a school environment is preferred
  • Preferred qualifications include Human Resources industry credential, such as SHRM-CP, PHR, pHCLE


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


12 Month Position, Pay Grade 65, Regular State Benefits


SUMMARY:


Specialists provide skilled administrative support to the District’s Human Resources (HR) programs and are responsible for confidential and highly complex duties. The scope of responsibility for this new position is significant and the job function has considerable impact within and outside of the department. HR Specialists ensure compliance with a wide variety of personnel policies and procedures, laws, board policies, and administrative practices; and participate in the design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of processes, procedures and systems. This position requires use of sound judgment in dealing with staff and the ability to initiate and manage projects independently.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supports the hiring process for all schools and departments to include reviewing applications, assisting hiring agents and candidates, verifying eligibility for hire, ensuring all paperwork and state and local policy guidelines for hiring are met.
  • Prepares and submits HR actions forms to the Finance Department
  • Ensures that employment actions are entered appropriately on personnel lists for Board of Education meetings
  • Interprets and assists employees with district policies, regulations and requirements
  • Communicates with employees, departments, administrators, applicants and the public for the purpose of providing information and assistance concerning employment.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of budget codes and assists with maintaining Allotment Sheets for all schools
  • Maintains a variety of employment files and records, compiling pertinent employee information for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of employee’s compensation.
  • Assists with new employee processing/orientation for the purpose of providing pertinent information regarding employment with the district
  • Assists in the collection, preparation and review of data for reports, proposals and other formal written communications; ensures that all reports and correspondence achieve a high level of quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the efficient operation of the Human Resources Department.
