General Information & Responsibilities

The HR Specialist – Onboarding serves as the first line of contact between the College and new employees while providing backup to the administrative support function of the department

Description of Duties

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

a. Implement and maintain College onboarding and orientation for new employees, supervisors, and Deans/Chairs.
b. Implement and maintain a 30, 60, 90-day New Employee check in process.
c. Research and assist the Director of HR in drafting and maintaining a DEI Plan that includes initiatives related to diverse recruitment and hiring practices and inclusive workplace initiatives.
d. Work with the HR Specialist-Recruitment and Talent Acquisition to set and meet diverse recruitment objectives.
e. Serve as a Culture Champion for the College Drive Culture for Student Success initiative.
f. Maintain the Employee Service Award program.
g. Distribute college exit interviews and compile data for use in employee and supervisor training.
h. Serve on the Employee Development Committee.
i. Administer new hire and annual Discrimination and Harassment Training.
j. Serve as a backup for the HR Specialist-Recruitment and Talent Acquisition, performing background checks, advancing applications to hiring committees, assisting with interview scheduling and completion of reference checks as necessary.
k. Manage the annual background check process for employees that require an annual MVR check per their job descriptions.
l. Indirect supervision of the Student Workers.
m. Manage Personnel Filing Retention in conjunction with Risk Management.
n. Receive and submit Tuition Waiver Requests.
o. Assists with customer service duties for the Human Resources Department.
p. Responsible for creating Human Resources related reports as requested.
q. Serve as a back-up to the HR Specialist-Recruitment and Talent Acquisition with the new hire paperwork process.
r. Safeguards confidential oral and written personnel information in compliance with HIPAA, EEOC, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and other applicable federal and state laws and guidelines; sends confidential information and documents, both paper and electronic, by secure means at all times.

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:
a. Assists other HR staff as needed.
b. Assists with the development and delivery of training to supervisory staff, hiring committees, and applicants.
c. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
a. Works directly with the Director of Human Resources, and cooperatively with all Human Resources Department staff.
b. Works closely and cooperatively with other departments.
c. Maintains a good working relationship with all College personnel.
d. Works cooperatively with the general public.

Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

a. Associate degree or equivalent course work in Human Resources (or HR related) required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
b. Job related certification and/or comparable post-secondary education or ability to obtain within one year of hire date is required.
c. Previous Human Resources experience required. Orientation/onboarding or company culture related experience preferred.
d. Intermediate level ability with Microsoft Office required.
e. Ability to work well with people of a diverse background in a friendly, respectful manner.
f. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
g. Strong communication and organizational skills required.
h. Ability to travel to career fairs and to other BHC locations is required.
