Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance and coaching to managers and employees on performance management or other employee relation matters. Provide fair, consistent interpretation and day-to-day administration of human resources policies, programs and practices. Interacts with employees and managers daily to ensure any issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Provides consultation support to managers addressing employee conduct and performance issues. Attends and/or conducts employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Processes and/or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Oversees new hire orientation ensuring HR Assistant is properly trained and equipped to conduct the training.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Works effectively and develops relationships with the collective bargaining workforce and within the guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement to ensure fair treatment and retaining management rights in issues involving grievance handling and matters of labor disagreement (bargaining locations only).
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Conducts and/or oversees exit interviews including all non-supervisory staff and first line supervisors, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities

  • Analyzes timeliness and quality of performance reviews.
  • Assists with the development of written employee communications, including employee handbooks and new hire orientation materials.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget preparation.
  • Works closely with local HR team championing major projects such as database management and recruiting efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualifications listed below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the field or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current employment laws such as ADA, FMLA, and USERRA, with the ability to correctly handle situations related to these laws.
  • Knowledge of best practices as it pertains to hiring practices, performance management, and compensation administration.
  • Prior employee relations experience required. Must be approachable and effective at communicating with all levels in the organization.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with employees, customers, vendors and/or others as required.
  • Proactively identify needs and provide timely and effective solutions.
  • Possess strong proficiency with programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, UltiPro, HRIS software; ability to prepare letters, spreadsheets, presentations, build and run queries, and/or other documents/reports as required.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
  • Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills; ability to resolve conflict and deliver results.
  • Solid interpersonal, team building and leadership skills; ability to collaborate and work effectively with others.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP strongly preferred.
