The Human Resources (HR) Generalist will be responsible for day-to-day support across multiple HR functions including onboarding, HR administration, employee relations, performance management, leave administration, talent acquisition and HR compliance.


This role will provide comprehensive support to employees and business leaders alike for all employee related matters and partner closely with other HR Center Of Excellence (COE) peers.

Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for day to day human resources activities. This position can be located at any of our larger laboratory locations (for example: Middletown, Kelso or Holland).


Human Resources Generalist has the following duties:


  • Provide comprehensive support to employees and business leaders alike on all employee related matters within assigned business stream(s)
  • Act as a liaison between the business and the wider HR team, “HR COE” to resolve employee related questions and matters; guide and advise on appropriate resource(s) an/ or HR COE partnership
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with employees and business leaders to ensure effective communication and understanding of company policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Coch employees and management in the areas of employment law, performance management, conflict management and resolution following company policies
  • Conduct investigations related to employee complaints, disciplinary actions, and other workplace issues. Provide recommendations and guidance to management on appropriate resolution
  • Provide support in the recruitment process and execution of the workforce planning strategy
  • Support the onboarding process and manage the off-boarding process
  • Assist in processing and analyzing data for reporting purposes such as headcount analysis and employee turnover
  • Facilitate the administration of medical leave utilizing the company’s leave management system
  • Manage the entry of employee transactions into applicable HR system
  • Respond to assigned unemployment claims
  • Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities in the areas of productivity, recognition, training and development, and employee morale in order to create departmental efficiencies and enhance the employee experience
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Strong team player and collaborator who can work effectively in a team fostered, multi-tasking environment
  • Excellent communication and people skills with the ability to work with all levels of staff throughout the organization

  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance
  • This position may require infrequent travel
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company operating procedures, standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site
  • Play an active role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during the day-to-day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
  • Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership
  • Understand and use HSE precautions (such as but not limited to fume hoods and PPE) while working with chemicals and samples of unknown hazards.
  • Ensure the health and safety of staff, contractors, and/or visitors by providing appropriate leadership, due diligence, resources, training, and enforcement for all individuals onsite.
  • Monitor and enforce the health, safety and environment policies, procedures and ensure compliance with the relevant regulations
  • Actively promote awareness of these policies, procedures, and regulations amongst company personnel.
  • Actively support and participate in all OHS initiatives. Lead by example.
  • Report all personal injuries and incidents and assist with investigations as per company policy.
  • Ensure the company sites adhere to all environmental requirements as determined by government legislation, regulation, and company policy.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in HR generalist role
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
  • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance.
