This is specialized, responsible work coordinating employee benefits for State and County-funded court employees. Benefits include insurance, flexible spending accounts, workers’ compensation, deferred compensation, retirement, training/outreach programs and other related areas. The Benefits Coordinator also performs varied administrative work in the daily operations of the Court Administrator’s Personnel Office under the direction of the Human Resources Manager. Duties include:

  • Processes health, life, supplemental insurance, miscellaneous deductions and qualifying events paperwork for State-funded court employees.
  • Assists in revolving insurance coverage and claim problems through telephone or written contact with the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA), Division of State Group Insurance (DSGI), People First, insurance providers, Broward County Benefits Section, and Broward County Risk Management Division.
  • Conducts new employee orientations regarding explanation of employee benefits for State-funded court employees.
  • Maintains contact with insurance company representatives, Division of State Group Insurance (DSGI), People First, insurance providers, Broward County Benefits Section, Comptroller’s Office, Division of Retirement, Deferred Compensation Office and other agencies as it relates to benefits.
  • Coordinates open enrollment activities for State and County-funded court employees. Attends meetings, distributes materials, prepares correspondence and responds to employee inquiries regarding open enrollment matters.
  • Provides information and assists employees with issues regarding retirement and DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan).
  • Processes workers’ compensation claims for State and County-funded court employees and coordinates and monitors pay and other issues related to workers’ compensation claims.
  • Prepares internal and external correspondence related to designated areas of responsibility; prepares correspondence for supervisor’s signature as well as informative memorandums for court employees.
  • Assists ADA Coordinator with coordination of services for specific requests as needed.
  • Completes payroll vouchers and appropriate paperwork for personnel actions.
  • Performs special assignments as required by the supervisor (e.g. conducting research regarding benefits matters or on any personnel related matter).
  • Conducts FCIC/NCIC background checks.
  • Performs related work as required.

Education & Training Guidelines

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and two years responsible experience in personnel administration working directly with benefits. Experience working with State, County or local city benefits is highly preferred.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of/or ability to learn Human Resources data base systems.
  • Knowledge of benefits available to State and County-funded court employees
  • Ability to become NCIC/FCIC certified.
  • Knowledge of federal laws affecting personnel policy, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Personnel Regulations Manual for State and County-funded court employees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer, word processing applications and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and patiently with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion concerning confidential information.
  • Ability to plan, organize and complete special assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Timeliness & attendance is an essential function of the job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,619.72 per year
