Role Purpose: Contact for employee relations issues. Assists the HR Manager in directing and coordinating the company’s Human Resources activities. Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of policies in support of employee relations. Assists the HR Manager in activities related to employment, training, records, benefits administration, wage, and salary pay plans and compliance with various levels of governmental laws and regulations with regards to labor and employment.

Scope: Role is local in nature but may be asked to work on global or regional projects as assigned. Flexibility for scheduling to off-shift support is required.

Role Reports to: HR Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Affect the company culture by coaching Supervisors and Managers and supporting company code of ethics in all actions.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and retaining a qualified workforce.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with external recruiters / temporary services to aid in recruiting hourly positions.
  • Administer of payroll in accordance with time and attendance system.
  • Create training records where identified, coordinate orientation & training; manage apprenticeship program.
  • Administer wage and salary changes in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Assist employees with benefit administration; new hire enrollment, annual open enrollment.
  • Complete required documentation associated with employee actions such as hiring, termination, FMLA, leaves of absence, transfers, etc.
  • Maintain current job descriptions for all hourly positions.
  • Ensure proper documentation and employee files are accurate and comply with legal requirements of record retention.
  • Recommend and administer company policies and procedures and interpretation.
  • Facilitate employee involvement activities.
  • Oversee employment recognition programs and awards as well as community events.
  • Prepare reports for management as directed.
  • Support safety initiatives and advocate for employee safety.
  • Provide general office support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Key Internal Relationships:

Local Management Team and Employees, Various Vendors, and other GKN locations as needed.

Formal qualifications required:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, HR Certification and/or equivalent work experience.

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Human Resource Generalist, preferably in a multi-shift manufacturing environment.

· Labor Relations Experience is preferred.

· Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of HRIS systems.

· Demonstrate ability to be proactive and take initiative, including performance of duties and exercising independent judgement.
