Job Summary

The Staff Educator/Supervisor is responsible for developing and evaluating inservice programs, as well as orientation and continuing education for nurses, students, and other staff in a specified clinical area. Develops educational policies and procedures and coordinates educational materials. Serves as a resource person for staff and management, as well as an educator, facilitator, committee member, and problem solver. Functions in a direct supervisor role providing daily clinical oversight of professional staff that will include on call responsibilities.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Develops and directs orientation programs, inservices, and continuing education for the nursing and auxiliary staff in assigned areas.
• Coordinates and provides oversight of new employee preceptor program; tracks progression of orientation and department specific coordination of care exposure.
• Plans, directs, develops, implements, and evaluates training and continuing educational programs, including competencies.
• Consults with Director of Patient Services (DPS), Executive Director, Director of Quality, and supervisors determining orientation and education needs of all clinical and supportive service departments, and in identifying ongoing education/training needs.
• Assists in developing educational policies and procedures, and coordinates educational materials.
• Prepares a yearly education budget projection for equipment, supplies, and programming.
• Ability to develop objectives and outlines for all inservice programs with an ability to develop creative and effective instructional materials.
• Knowledgeable of home care regulations, Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) regulations, insurance reimbursement, and Prospective Payment System (PPS) reimbursement system, and effective staff resource utilization.
• Knowledge of Outcome ASsesment Information Set (OASIS), Uniform Assessment System for New York (UAS-NY), and regulation specific documentation requirements.

Education/Experience Requirements

BSN with a minimum of 2 years home care experience or AAS with BSN (in progress) with a minimum 5 years home care experience and 12 credit hours of management courses

High level of computer literacy, including but not limited to data entry, retrieval, presentational, and report generation.

Ability to work with patients/families/Staff of all ages and in a variety of settings, including inpatient facility and patients’ homes presenting diverse physical conditions and social/cultural environments.

Ability to drive to and from a variety of settings in varying weather conditions

Physical exam signed by a physician showing you are in good health and have the immunizations required by the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH).

Ability to perform physical tasks which include sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, bending, and may include lifting a minimum of 40 pounds.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

Valid New York State driver’s license.
