Overview:
The Histotechnician I - Mohs is responsible for assisting the Mohs surgeon during the grossing of specimens; process, embed, cut and stain tissue specimens. In addition, the Histotechnician is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and cleanliness of the laboratory area.

Experience:
  • Minimum or 1 year working experience in Derm
Certifications & Licenses: None required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or fell objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 25 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer. Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Laboratory work environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment.
  • Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Safety equipment and personal protective equipment provided and required. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity enough to operate office and laboratory equipment.
  • Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or medical clinic environment.
  • Minimum travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical aspects in the areas of histology, laboratory techniques and quality control.
  • Demonstrates ability to embed, cut, stain, and mount tissue specimens following established policies and procedures and laboratory standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with superiors, peers, physicians and patients.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
