Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Occupational Health Nurses (OHNs) work in a clinical capacity assessing, treating and providing healthcare and wellbeing guidance to the working individual. Provides specialized occupational health nursing care for acute and preventive individuals. Facilitates communication between health care providers, employees and employers in order to provide quality, efficient health care.
Essential Job Functions
Demonstrates ability to make independent clinical judgments according to applicable standards of practice and provider instructions
Adapts to dynamic environment and changing priorities
Understands and works to service the multiple parties involved in treatment and management of work-related injuries
Reports findings appropriately and in a timely manner, making referrals and recommendations as necessary
Initiates and maintains appropriate documentation
Communicates clearly with employees, employers, insurance providers and other health care providers
Effectively instructs individuals and groups concerning the following: individual health care plan, healthy lifestyle choices, safety behaviors and work limitations
Organizes and maintains efficient treatment areas by maintaining cost-effective and medically appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment. Cleans, calibrates, sterilizes and maintains equipment as appropriate
Performs a variety of physical assessments to include the following: occupational and medical history, physical exam, vision screenings, hearing screenings, spirometry, electrocardiograms (EKGs), graded exercise tests, breath alcohol tests, urine drug screens, venipuncture, and vaccine administration

Licensing/Certification
Current RN License in the state in which they are working or covered by compact (required)
BLS Basic Life Support (required)
Education
BSN Bachelors of Science Nursing (preferred)
Work Experience
1 year of experience in medical-surgical nursing, emergency, occupational health or employee health (required)
Training
EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)

Patient Population
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
