The Community Development Department is comprised of six divisions: Customer Service One Stop Shop, Planning, Engineering, Building Safety, Aquifer Protection, and Code Compliance. The objective for the Community Development Department's is to guide the development of the County through effective measures of planning, design review, construction plan approval, code compliance, and environmental health to preserve and enhance the quality of life for the residents of Pinal County.

The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.

This position is Part-time.

JOB SUMMARY
A Civil Hearing Officer is a contracted position responsible for presiding over civil code compliance cases filed by Building Safety, Zoning Code Compliance, Animal Control and the Housing Department.

Example of Duties

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Conducts public hearings on violations of County Ordinances; advises defendants of their rights and obligations, arranges payment schedules and collects monies from the defendants.
  • Makes fair and impartial decisions on assigned cases, according to Arizona Statutes for Zoning Ordinance, Building Code Ordinance, Sanitary Code, Pinal County Fire Code, and any other Arizona Statute and County Code/Ordinance authorizing the Pinal County Hearing Officer to hear civil violations.
  • Appraising factual situations and making appropriate decisions promptly and in accordance with law.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in municipal or public law is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is sedentary. The work also requires the ability to finger, perform repetitive motion, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.
