Vacancies have arisen within the theatre department at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road EC1V 2PD for Health Care Assistants. This is an exciting opportunity to learn, develop and further your skills in theatres. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, motivated HCAs with a 'can do' attitude to join our friendly multidisciplinary team within Theatres.

We have 8 NHS Theatres and 2 Private Patient theatres covering a variety of ophthalmic specialties and our focus is in providing excellent, safe patient care. If you have good communication skills and the ability to work in a fast pace, busy environment this is an ideal role for you.

You will be required to work flexible shifts, inclusive of some weekends; the department is a 7-day service and hours range between 0800 - 2100 hours.

Previous experience in theatres and ophthalmology is desirable; but we are willing to provide some training and support and there will be opportunities to go on to further development roles within Theatres.
Main duties of the job

To perform all Health Care Assistant (HCA) duties in support of theatre staff and patients in the peri-operative environment. The role will be worked over a 7 day service provision within our Trust standards and specifications under the direction of the lead Theatre Practitioner. This role will be fundamental in promoting the highest standards of service delivery and customer care.

The Health Care Assistant in Operating Theatres will work clinical as a key part of the speciality team.

They will work under the direct supervision of the Registered practitioners and will have responsibility for ensuring the provision of equipment and stock for the day to running of the theatre lists.

Responsible for the provision of high quality care and a safe environment for patients under the supervision of a registered practitioner.

Support the Team Leader in ensuring the provision of physical resources in the delivery of clinical care.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended

Or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

Ensure that equipment is available and in good working order being mindful of specialty specific requirements, highlighting any deficits in a timely manner to the Team Leader.

Ensure the safer surgery checklist principles are adhered to, and be mindful of their role within it. Escalate immediately to the Team Leader any concerns they may have regarding any aspect of patient safety.

Develop and maintain electronic records for the provision of stock and the use of implants to ensure adequate traceability.
