Position Overview
Under general direction of the Health Information Administrator, serves as a specially trained and skilled technical assistant to the Health Information Administrator; prepare specialized reports; evaluates health information records; assures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards; functions as an audit specialist; measures data accuracy; represents the organization in matters regarding health care records in court actions; participates in assigned facility committees and provides training to staff on department and facility policy and procedures pertaining to health information.
Job Responsibilities
Serves as a specially trained and skilled technical assistant to the Health Information Administrator.
Applies coding and classification to diseases and verifies reliability of coded information.
Represents the organization in matters regarding health care records in court actions.
Utilizing a personal computer, software, hardware, and agency mainframe applications, produces special reports, charts, forms, and graphs for summaries and displays of health information records.
Serves as a liaison to clinical staff and managers for unresolved medical record related discrepancies, delinquencies, and non-compliant records.
Monitors existing health information services system procedures.
Participates in assigned facility committees and provides training to staff on department and facility policy and procedures pertaining to health information.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of college.
Requires one (1) year experience in health information records procedures.
Requires accreditation as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Conditions of Employment
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
Work Hours: Mon - Fri, 7:00am - 3:00pm
