Health Information Management Clerk

Northridge Hospital Medical Center


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Information Management Clerk. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and maintaining patient medical records in electronic or papater form. This includes filing and retrieving medical records, coding patient information for billing and insurance purposes, and ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information.


Responsibilities

  • Check Master Patient Index for previous admissions upon request from nursing/admitting departments.
  • Accurately determine number of previous admissions for each patient.
  • Create new folders for first admissions.
  • Combine multiple charts for single patient into one folder.
  • Provide prompt delivery of records to correct nursing unit or notification of no previous record.
  • Ensure an out-guide is filed on the shelf for each chart pulled.
  • Receives and process pull lists for audits/reviews etc.
  • Order records from off-site storage as necessary to process audit/review requests.
  • Ability to adjust to fluctuating workloads.
  • Ensure all loose filing is appropriately identified and incorporated into the appropriate patient record/episode of service in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow through on all matters.
  • Demonstrate good customer relations in all aspects to include telephone courtesy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one-year experience in hospital setting or similar clerical experience required.
  • Knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge of terminal digit filing systems.
  • Current Fire Safety card required. (obtain within 90 days of start date).

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and covered under the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Pay Range

$21.03 - $26.49 /hour
