The Oregon State Hospital, in Salem, Oregon is searching for a Licensed Hairdresser to fulfill patients’ needs relating to haircutting and styling; and to provide proper hair and scalp care that meets professional standards.
What you will do:
  • Work in designated areas used for the purpose of haircutting, permanents, shampoos, styles, and scalp care.
  • Arrange and set up space as to provide a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
  • Cut and style patients’ hair, according to the desires of the patients needing services.
  • Greet and treat patients in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Explain to patients with hair or scalp hygiene needs, proper grooming and health care at the time service is being performed.
  • Maintain records of haircut appointments consultation services to patients on grooming and scalp care:
  • Schedule classes, upon request from unit staff, for the education of patients’ grooming and scalp care, and the use of equipment needed for these services.
The Ideal Candidate will have the following:
  • Current Licensure for Esthetician and Hair Design.
  • Ability to consistently treat consumers and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Provide service delivery in a culturally competent way.

Working Conditions:
  • Daily exposure to potentially assaultive, aggressive patients admitted to the hospital.
  • Daily exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Possible lifting into and out of hairdresser's chair.
  • Standing for long periods of time. Work hours subject to change with little notice.
  • May be required to work hours that exceed regular schedule, i.e., a double shift or a different shift in addition to regular schedule.
  • Be able to walk, stand for long periods, run and lift 15-50 lbs.
  • Need to be able to interact with patients and give and receive instruction to patients, other staff, and intern.
Minimum Qualifications:

A valid Oregon State Board of Barbers and Hairdressers license.
