Position Details

The Coordinator of Group Violence Intervention will work with other Group Violence Intervention project partners including: social service agencies, faith based and community organizations, law enforcement, city officials, community members and the National Network for Safe Communities to implement the Group Violence Intervention strategy and achieve established goals and objectives. The Coordinator is responsible for nurturing these partnerships to ensure that the implementation is effective and that agencies engage in collaborative partnerships to individuals in the communities served who have been impacted by gun violence. These responsibilities are carried out under the direction of the Director of Community Violence Intervention.. This position will need to have a flexible schedule that may include working some nights, weekends, and holidays.


Position Specifics

  • Position Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm - Some occasional evenings and special events
  • Participation in a rotating on-call shift schedule required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial

  • Meets or exceeds budgeted financial expectations for the program.
  • Will seek prior approval and work with the direct supervisor for any purchases that need to be made.
  • Submit all receipts within 24 hours of purchase.
  • Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.


Operations

  • Operate from the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
  • Provide 22 direct service hours each work week.
  • Ensure you are clocking in the Paycom system any time you are working and clocking out from the Paycom system anytime you are not working. If a punch is missed ensuring you are submitting a punch change request and including a comment as to why the punch was missed.
  • Ensure you review your employee time card for accuracy and approve the time card is correct each pay period before the timeline on the payroll memo.
  • Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all.
  • Work as part as multi-disciplinary team to coordinate wrap around supports.
  • Implement an effective outreach program for identified underserved populations within service areas assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining a library of information resources (books, pamphlets, articles, etc.) relevant to survivor understanding, recovery, and advocacy.
  • Proactively supports agency values.
  • Follow agency policy on confidentiality.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of relevant issues.
  • Actively participate in program and agency problem identification and resolution.
  • Complete job-related paperwork and data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proactively support the development and attainment of program and agency program goals.


Client/External

  • Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics
  • Maintain strong relationships with the diverse stakeholders in Group Violence Intervention, including both frontline and executive law enforcement partners, community-based organizations and social service providers, including coordinating and chairing the executive working group.
  • Communicate regular updates on the status of implementation to executive partners.
  • Provide information about the criminal justice process in its entirety including but not limited to the investigation, pre-trial procedures, trial and appeal, in person, by phone, or in writing.
  • Coordinate organizational structure for Group Violence Intervention social service implementation and community engagement activities.
  • Work with the National Network technical assistance team to ensure all key Group Violence Intervention strategy components are being implemented (community outreach and support, offender services, law enforcement).
  • Ensure that all activities are in alignment with the overall strategy mission and are in direct support of established project goals, objectives, policies and protocols, while allowing for unique local conditions, resources and needs.
  • Coordinate a team of services for the participants and work with social services agencies, community agencies and Group Violence Intervention partners to address multiple problem areas affecting participants such as health, housing, mental health, and substance abuse.
  • Schedule and attend Group Violence Intervention related planning meetings and participate in weekly conference calls.
  • Facilitate Group Violence Intervention meetings such as governance board meetings, community meetings, etc.
  • Establish and facilitate the on-going work of Group Violence Intervention including work groups with law enforcement, community engagement and social services.
  • Provide referrals to community-based victim service programs and other resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain a clear implementation plan for Davenport’s Group Violence Intervention. Ensure that program activities are in alignment with the project mission, objectives, policies and protocols; that all program activities are appropriately documented and that written activity reports are prepared as necessary.
  • Track offender participation, offender interventions, offender outcomes, and maintain records of call-ins.
  • Assist survivors with funeral arrangements of their deceased loved one.
  • Assist with statements to the media.
  • Provide community organizing and collaborating with related professionals/agencies.
  • Develop, implement and schedule presentations on related issues in the public sector including training for law enforcement, schools, and non-profit agencies.
  • Participate in community relations/networking.
  • Represent the program and agency positively in all public and community contacts.
  • Provide immediate response to survivors as requested by law enforcement, medical professionals and other community partners.
  • Ensure follow-up communication for survivors as they are identified through victim-witness coordinators, law enforcement, the media, or other sources.
  • Provide ongoing support to survivors through face-to-face contacts, cards, telephone calls, and other means.
  • Advocate for victims within legal, medical, housing & social systems.
  • Ensure all appropriate documentation of client contacts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


People

  • Participates in, at minimum, twice monthly individual supervisions with a direct supervisor.
  • Creates positive, inclusive, safe, client-led, and outcome-oriented culture.
  • Serves as a public face of the Agency by interfacing with regulatory, community, and funder leadership.
  • Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.


Qualifications

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social services, public administration or related field.
  • Education Preferred: Master’s degree in criminal justice, social services, public administration or related field.
  • Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of law enforcement, direct outreach, or social services
  • Experience Preferred: 4 years of experience in the field of law enforcement, direct outreach, or social services
  • Valid drivers’ license in good standing and vehicle with appropriate auto insurance required. Must be able to pass the motor vehicle record background check.


Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
