Organization

The primary role of the Group In-Business Reputation Risk Program Manager is to work with the Business and the In-business Reputation Risk Managers from the regions and global businesses to identify and manage reputation risks and manage escalations of proposals for approval by Reputation Risk Committees as well as coordinate governance updates from the other Group governance committees. These risks can be born of legislative developments, regulatory changes, internal practices, product or marketing design, relationships or partners.

Role/Responsibilities

The Group In-Business Reputation Risk Manager leads efforts to identify and manage potential and emerging reputation risks, and works with the businesses to formulate and implement mitigants to those risks and manage escalation of those risks to Reputation Risk Committees. Duties for the Group In-Business Reputation Risk Manager will include:

  • Driving the business to operate responsibly and to maintain practices of the highest standards of ethics and integrity while considering Citi’s external constituents including consumer advocates, regulators, and the media
  • Analyzing and identifying issues for the identification and management of reputation risks, which requires significant business knowledge, product expertise, and influence with senior working groups, leadership councils, and executive governance bodies
  • Detecting trends and areas of emergent reputation risk through participation in strategic forums, research on legislative, regulatory and reputation risk issues and trends
  • Designing and executing a formal plan, including standards, protocols, policies, procedures and other documentation, that will contribute to the success of Citi Reputation Risk Management Process and its objective of maintaining highly effective relationships with our regulators and supervisory agencies and strong examination ratings
  • Steering cross-functional collaboration with business and functional partners to facilitate the exchange of information and early identification of risks
  • Supporting and furthering the development of the Reputation Risk Appetite Framework (e.g., key performance metrics, surveys, heat maps, sub-committees/task forces)
  • Conducting industry-specific research to draft reputation risk reviews of industries or segments that may pose enhanced reputation risk to Citi

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree
  • Advanced degree not required but relevant, such as Masters in Business Administration, Masters of Public Administration/Public Policy Management, Masters in Ethics/Ethical Decision Making, etc.

Professional Experience

  • 5-10 years of direct banking experience within multi-national, multi-business consumer financial institution
  • Success in core operating and business roles such as marketing, product strategy, policy development that convey deep business knowledge and product expertise or similar control function role that requires close business partnership such as AML or product compliance
  • Demonstrated commitment to Citi’s Mission and Value Statement and Leadership Standards
  • Deep understanding of external environment and stakeholders, particularly of legislative, regulatory and reputation risk issues and trends
  • Skilled in collaborating with internal partners, including a broad stakeholder group across all functions and levels of the organization

Skill Qualifications

Analytical and Intellectual Skills

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze operational and financial impact of various alternatives and risk mitigation approaches while providing effective challenge to the business
  • Intellectual curiosity and strong research skills to understand implication of consent orders, shifts in regulation, and marketplace activity
  • Ability to identify and link emerging risks and pinpoint underlying business practice concerns across multiple businesses and global regions
  • Able to focus on decision making in the ‘spirit’ of the law/regulation and not singularly the letter of the law

Relationship Management and Maturity

  • Ability to catalyze senior-level discussion, and influence business recommendations
  • Ability to negotiate and influence business management through keen understanding of business priorities, functional sensitivities, and clear articulation of trade-off, risk/reward analysis
  • Ability to use discretion and sound judgment related to reputation and other risk mitigation recommendations, given work is highly intellectual and confidential in nature
  • Ability to operate within a matrix environment and effectively lead change across multiple constituencies, organizational boundaries, geographic areas, and levels of management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Executive Execution

  • Ability able to define and execute on cross-business/cross-functional standards, often applicable globally
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously and demonstrate an understanding of the projects' interdependencies and key participants
