Job description

The New Hope Missionary Baptist Church ministry is seeking a gifted musician to serve as the church’s keyboardist and band leader.

The musician should be able to conduct band rehearsals, proficiently teach, improvise, flow along with the pastor in worship, and play different genres of Christian music. Familiarity with music by Todd Dulaney, Tasha Cobbs, Ricky Dillard, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Jonathan Nelson, Hezekiah Walker, Donald Lawrence and Elevation Worship is preferred.

This is a year-round position and the keyboardist is expected to attend all regular Sunday Worship services (10:30 am), vocalist and musician rehearsals, and no more than ten (10) special services (including limited outgoing engagements, Easter Sunrise Service, Ushers Anniversary, Christmas Program, church concerts, etc).

Skills Required:

• High degree of competence on piano, and the ability to accompany youth and adult choirs, soloists and the praise team during worship services, musical performances and or special events.
• Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or re-harmonizations.
• Experience in church worship and familiarity with blended worship (traditional gospel, contemporary gospel, hymns, and contemporary Christian worship).
• Experience as a "team player" in an organizational or business setting in order to work cooperatively with church staff, musicians, volunteers, and members across a variety of age groups and types of music.
• Ability to provide music recommendations to the music director and worship leader.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others.
• Ability to take direction from the music director and pastor, and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow instrumentalists.
• Ability to manage band rehearsals and provide musical direction to the band.
• Ability to rehearse and sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music, learn new music, improvise and play by ear.
• Ability to work with the pastor in the general planning and conveying of information about the music program.
• Ability to maintain the piano and keyboard.
• Ability to be punctual and flexible.
• Ability to attend weekly musical rehearsals with vocalists and band members.
• Ability to support the church’s worship environment through well-prepared music
• Ability to plan, prepare and play appropriate music for scheduled worship services and other required occasions to support the music ministry of the church.
• Ability to provide musical accompaniment for weddings and funerals, as requested and upon availability, for additional compensation from the requesting parties.
• Ability to teach vocal harmonies and sight-read are preferred, not required.

Hours:

Approximately 4 to 6 hours per week.

Salary:

$13,000.00 - $15,000.00 USD. Negotiable, commensurate with candidate’s education, experience, and skill level.
