To be successful in this role, you will be proficient in the provision and coordination of patient centered care. Registered nurses (RNs) assess and evaluate patient conditions, and then plan, implement, provide, and document patient care in a manner that follows professional nursing standards and outlined practices.

The role of the GI Registered Nurse in Gastroenterology includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assess the health status of each patient, record related health data and establishing a nursing diagnosis, and document relevant data in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Providing pre, intra, and post procedure education to the patients, families, significant others, and/or caregivers, being specifically informative regarding scope prep.
  • Provide health promotion strategies and education to patients and their support system.
  • Administer and evaluate pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens mandated by the situation, evidence-based practice, and recent advancements in gastroenterology.
  • Evaluate outcomes of nursing intervention and initiating change when appropriate.
  • Employ strategies to promote a healthy and safe environment, and make ethical and moral decisions surrounding patient care, acknowledge diversity when providing patient care.
  • Assist the physician and/or advanced provider during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient's health status and responding appropriately.
  • Performing diagnostic studies as ordered, assist in the management of follow up care.
  • Communicate effectively with the patient and inter-professional team to ensure quality and continuity of care and ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, act as a resource for others, and serve as a mentor for others.
  • Utilizing appropriate resources to provide safe and effective nursing services.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Current Professional Nurse License issued and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners
  • BLS and ACLS from AHA
  • Prior experience in Gastroenterology
